14.03.10 Bardwell 0 v
Carterton FC 11
Carterton were in a stronger position this
week than Bardwell with 12 players against there 8 shortly to be 9 with a
player getting there late. V again was in goal, Dawn, Jodi, Katie and Nicola
along the back, Georgia, Lucy, Kayleigh and Charlotte in midfield and Sophie
and Stacey up front. Chrisanne was on the bench and looking after Dave’s dog
!!
Carterton kicked off up the hill and against a strong wind. With the number
advantage the away side controlled the game well and Sophie and Stacey had
half a dozen chances in the first 10 minutes to go ahead but I think they
had their boots on the wrong feet, Charlotte also had a couple of great runs
into the box but shot at the keeper. Watching attack after attack from the
touchline was sometimes funny but also frustrating, it looked like the
players were in slow motion or running through deep sand as they all seemed
to run out of steam when it come to the shot. Ten minutes before half time
Sophie got the first goal when she beat the keeper at the near post. This
followed quickly by her second when an almost carbon copy goal was scored.
Bardwell did get into Cartertons half but with the wind and the slope it was
hard for them to get to the ball and it ran through to V. Players were
getting very frustrated that all this possession didn’t turn into goals and
no more goals were scored in the half.
Half Time: - Bardwell 0 v Carterton FC 2.
Chrisanne came on for the start of the half with Katie making way and
changing to three at the back and five across the midfield. Carterton got
straight into the second half with a goal from Stacey when she lobbed the
keeper from the corner of the box. With the wind behind them and down the
slope the away side were camped in the Bardwell goal area but some resilient
defending kept them from scoring for another 15 minutes. On the hour mark a
soft penalty was awarded when Stacey was judged to of been tripped in the
box, she stepped up and scored from the spot. Georgia was next on the score
sheet with her first of the season when she cut in from the left and scored.
Another substitution was made with Katie going on a replacing Lucy in
midfield. Stacey got her hat trick when she ran through onto goal and didn’t
miss with a low strike. Kayleigh was next on the score sheet when she scored
with a fine left foot strike and Charlotte got the next when Sophie passed
it to her and left her with an open goal to score in. A rare break into
Cartertons half was turned around quickly by a quick thinking V in goal, she
picked the ball up in the area and knocked it down field, the ball bounced
over the defender and Stacey latched onto it and ran into the box. The
keeper committed herself to come out and Stacey played it across the goal
for Sophie to tap in and get her hat trick. Almost immediately Sophie got
her fourth when her first shot was blocked but she followed up to score the
rebound. Katie had to come back off with severe blisters and Lucy came on.
This was good timing as the next break saw the ball fall to Lucy some 30
yards out and she volleyed it into the back of the net.
Full Time: - Bardwell 0 v Carterton FC 11.
A far better performance in the second half with some good teamwork
resulting in 9 goals in the half. Player of the Match went to Georgia
Jackson for some good link play down the left and her first goal for

28.02.10 Carterton FC 0 v
Stony Stratford Town Reserves 2
Another day and another tough team selection
with players missing. V was in goal and a back four of Dawn, ‘new girl’
Katie, Sophie and Nicola. Across the midfield were Georgia, Lucy, Kayleigh
and Chrisanne with Stacey and Charlotte up front. Gemma was due to arrive
during the first half.
Carterton got the game under way and took time to settle, not able to
control the ball and pass well meant we were on the back foot for large
parts of the half. The away side were changed from the week before, as their
first team hadn’t got a game they were able to field some stronger players.
On 20 minutes Gemma was on for Katie who had done well but still getting to
know her team. With half an hour gone it was the away team who got a goal
when Emily James struck the ball from outside the box and it went over V’s
hands and into the net, 0-1. Charlotte was next to sit out for a while to
rest her knees when Katie went on up front. No real chances came Cartertons
way in the first half with a couple of strikes going wide.
Half Time: - Carterton FC 0 v Stony Stratford Town Reserves 1.
A change in the second half was made with Stacey staying on the bench after
picking up a knock and Charlotte going on. On 52 minutes Stony doubled their
lead with a cross, which ended up as a shot on goal from Courtney Frankish.
The wind changed the path of the ball, which caught V out. With half an hour
to go a couple of changes were made, Dawn came off and Georgia dropped back
into the left of defence, Katie went into centre back with Gemma, thus
enabling Sophie to go up front, Stacey came off the bench to partner Sophie
and Charlotte moved to left midfield. This seemed to give the home side a
boost and Sophie was in the thick of things creating some gaps in the away
sides defence. Lucy was working hard in the midfield winning some great
tussles but we lacked the killer pass or shot on goal. Carterton pressured
the ball until the final whistle blew, I think if we stayed on the pitch
another hour we wouldn’t have scored, and it just didn’t seem to be our day.

Not one of our better games this season but one player never gave up and was
awarded the trophy, this was Lucy Moore, well done. 21.02.10 Stony Stratford 2 v
Carterton FC 2
This week the squad was in a slightly better
shape than the last few games. We had 12 players for the travel to Milton
Keynes to play our game against Stony Stratford. V was in goal, Jodi was
back after her injury in central defence with Tracy, Dawn at left back and
Nicola at right back. Across the midfield from left to right were Charlotte,
Lucy, Kayleigh and Chrisanne with Sophie and Stacey up front, Georgia was on
the bench for the start.
The first half started with some good possession from the away side, only
struggling to find that last ball into a threatening area to capitalise. On
19 minutes the home side took the lead when a cross come shot went over V in
goal and hit the post, the ball travelled along the goal line and Stony’s
Kirsty James was on hand at the far post with an easy tap in. The home side
after scoring seemed to up their game and Carterton were on the defensive
for a good ten minutes. Tracy put in some great challenges and one great
block to prevent them from extending their lead. On the half hour mark
Charlotte came off for a breather, her knees were still playing her up, so
Georgia went on and took Charlottes place on the left of midfield. With 3
minutes of the half to play Kayleigh laid the ball into the path of Stacey’s
run, she took one touch and struck the ball past the keeper, it hit the
inside of the post and went across the goal and hit the inside of the net.
Half Time : - Stony Stratford 1 v Carterton FC 1.
Carterton started the second half and were straight on the attack but some
good defending thwarted any early chances. V was having a good game coming
off her line and clearing when Stony Stratford sent the ball over our
defence. On 70 minutes Sophie came off and Charlotte went on up front and
almost immediately caused their defence problems with her pace and strength.
Stacey had a chance to put Carterton ahead when she had the ball in the box,
the defender was very close to her so she tried to twist and turn to make
some space for the shot but the defender stood her ground and the attack
fizzled out. Charlotte had a great chance also as Carterton pilled on the
pressure for the win, she fought her way into the box with the ball and from
a tight angle and under a challenge her shot went wide. Unfortunately in the
process she injured her knee and had to come off and Sophie went back on.
Within a couple of minutes of coming back on Sophie had put Carterton in
front with a well struck shot that the keeper couldn’t save, 1-2. It looked
as if Carterton had done enough to take all three points but for some reason
the referee continued the game way over the 90 minutes, with only one injury
to Charlotte in the half the game seemed to go on and on and … with 4 extra
minutes played Stony got their second goal when Kirsty latched onto a
through ball and one on one with the keeper she scored. Almost immediately
after the restart the final whistle blew.
Full Time :- Stony Stratford 2 v Carterton FC 2.
Carterton felt very hard done by, tempers flared a little and unfortunately
Kayleigh got booked. On a positive note another good team performance, we
will just need to learn that when we have a lead so late into a game that we
slow things down and control the game. Player of the Match went to Kayleigh
for her outstanding performance only slightly scared by the yellow card!
14.02.10 Carterton FC v
Olney. - This game was awarded to Carterton as Olney
were unable to field a team
14.02.10 Hazlemere 0 v
Carterton FC 4
With our home game against
Olney being cancelled off in the week we were lucky that Hazlemere hadn’t
got a game. As we had already got a pitch and referee booked, Hazlemere
were happy to come and play at Carterton, even though they were the home
side.
This week we were slightly better off with having 10 players to start and
one to make it to the game during the first half. Saying we had 10
players, didn’t mean we had 10 fit players, Lucy was still suffering from
her knock the week before, Dawn had been ill all morning, Tracy was still
feeling sore from the game against Unity and Charlotte was still suffering
with knee pains. The line up this week was V in goal, Nicola, Tracy,
Sophie and Dawn across the back, Chrisanne on the right, Lucy and Kayleigh
in the middle with Charlotte on the left of midfield and Stacey up front.
Hazlemere started the game and within two minutes were down to 10 players
also when one of their players pulled up with an injury. Stacey called the
keeper into action on 18 minutes when Chrisanne passed the ball into the
box and the keeper held Stacey’s shot. Midway through the half we were up
to 11 players when Gemma arrived from work, she took over from Sophie at
the back, Sophie went and played on the left of midfield and Charlotte
went up front with Stacey. A couple of half chances fell to Lucy and
Stacey but they were off target. Sophie had a couple of good crosses from
corners but no one attacked the ball. On 43 minutes the deadlock was
broken when Charlotte went on a run down the right wing, she cut into the
box and crossed the ball across the face of the goal and Stacey managed to
bundle the ball over the line with her knee.
Half Time: - Hazlemere 0 v Carterton FC 1.
The second half started with Hazlemere defending with the sun in their
faces (yes we did get sunshine!). Kayleigh and Lucy were controlling the
game closing down any attacks, giving the defence and V in goal an easy
afternoon. Midway into the second half another strong run with the ball
from Charlotte down the right ended in a cross into the six yard area,
where Stacey got in front of the keeper and turned the ball into the back
of the net, 0-2. Sophie had a great chance to make it three when she took
a shot from outside the area; the keeper lost sight of the ball in the sun
but it went inches over the crossbar. On 89 minutes Stacey got her hat
trick when like Sophie she struck the ball from outside the area this time
the keeper palmed the ball up into the air and again with the sun she lost
sight of it, the ball fell behind her and trickled over the line. From the
centre kick Carterton won possession and attacked down the wing with the
final cross being blocked out for a corner. Sophie knocked the ball into
the area, Chrisanne missed the ball and it fell to Stacey on the edge of
the box. A defender charged her down but she side stepped the player and
struck the ball into the top right corner, 0-4. A minute later the final
whistle blew on an entertaining game of football.
A great team performance, one of the best of the season. Kayleigh worked
very hard in midfield, a position she is getting better in every game.
Lucy and Tracy both injured from previous games battled to the final
whistle and Dawn had an outstanding game seeing as she was not well.
Player of the Match went to the goal scorer Stacey for a fine performance
up front netting all four goals. Well done all.
07.02.10 Ducklington LFC 7 v
Carterton FC 0.
A depleted Carterton team travelled to
Burford to play Ducklington’s home game !! With only 9 players available to
start for the away side it was going to be a very tough match. V in goal,
Nicola, Sophie and Dawn playing across the back. Georgia, Kayleigh, Lucy and
Charlotte across the midfield and Stacey up front alone. Gemma was hoping to
get to the match during the first half from work.
Ducklington kicked off down the slope and pilled the pressure on
immediately, Sarah Snowdon won a corner which she took and from the rebound
she hit a shot over V’s head and into the back of the net, 1-0. Two minutes
later Sarah got her second with a run through the middle and her shot
beating V. Emma Proctor scored to make it 3-0 before Snowy got her hat trick
on 8 minutes. Carterton were battling hard to keep the home side at bay,
Lucy dropped into the centre of defence to try and cut out their chances. On
16 minutes V pulled of a good save from a strong shot, only for the ball to
fall to Nicola Warner who had a simple tap in to make it 5-0. Victoria
Strode was next on the score sheet on 27 minutes after some great defending
and ball keeping by the away side, a small mistake meant a loss of
possession and Vicky was on hand to score 6-0. With six minutes of the half
left Gemma turned up and after a warm up down the touchline she came on.
Within a minute Carterton had conceded their 7th with Sarah getting her
fourth of the afternoon.
Half Time Ducklington LFC 7 v Carterton FC 0.
The second half started with Carterton making good use of the slope and
pressuring the Ducklington goal. Lucy got a knock to her foot and had to
come off for a while putting Carterton back down to 9 players but the game
was more in Ducks half than Cartertons. Georgia Jackson had a shot rebound
back off the post and cleared for a throw in while Stacey and Charlotte had
their chances also. For the last 10 minutes Lucy came back on and put in
some really crunching tackles to win the ball. Unfortunately all the
domination of the ball couldn’t materialise into goals and the game finished
7-0.
A game of two halves with Ducklingtons pressure in the first half and even
with fewer players, Carterton dominated the second. A gutsy performance from
them, especially against a strong team like Ducklington. Player of the Match
went to Lucy Moore for her battling on the pitch and determination to play
on with an injury. Well done.
LEAGUE PLATE ROUND 1.
24.01.10 Unity FC 4 v Carterton FC 1
This week a drive to Reading for our knock
out Plate match against Unity. The line up today was how it finished the
match last week, V in goal, Nicola, Jodi, Gemma and Dawn at the back,
Charlotte, Kayleigh, Tracy and Georgia across the midfield and Sophie
partnering Stacey up front with Chrisanne and Georgina on the bench.
Carterton were slow to start and Unity were very aggressive in the early
stages getting an early goal when a clearance from V fell to the striker
Ngozichukwu Payne who immediately struck the ball into the net, 1-0. On 15
minutes they increased their lead when a break down their left looked as if
it wouldn’t come to anything but a strike from Unity’s Ranai Bird went past
V and in off the far upright for their second. Carterton were trying to play
football but were constantly fouled, some of which seemed to be dangerous
tackles which the referee didn’t act upon. On 33 minutes Nicola was in the
right place at the right time when a corner was swung in and from the
resulting shot she managed to clear off the line to stop them from scoring.
Carterton were resilient in defending at times, I am not sure whether the
home side were sharper or quicker to react but every time the ball become
loose, there was a Unity player on hand to get hold of the ball. Just before
half time this came true as a shot from the home side was well blocked but
fell to Deanna Peters who rounded the keeper and slotted the ball into the
goal, 3-0.
Half Time: - Unity FC 3 v Carterton FC 0.
Two changes at half time with Dawn and Charlotte coming off and Georgina and
Chrisanne taking their places for the restart.
Not a great restart for the away side but on reflection the best goal of the
game came within the first minute of the second half. A good interchange of
passes resulted in Unity carving a gap through the Carterton defence and
Deanna got her second goal of the game, 4-0. Again Carterton picked
themselves up and passed the ball around but the game was getting away from
them, Tracy got an elbow in her ribs but carried on. Half way through the
second half a couple of really bad challenges saw two Carterton players
having to leave the field with injuries. Firstly V in goal was caught very
late in the hand with the forward’s studs, Stacey took over in goal and
Charlotte came on and went up front with Sophie. The other player was
Georgia who had been kicked in the foot. Dawn came back on at left back and
Georgina was moved forward to left midfield. The final quarter of the game
saw Carterton pilling on the pressure to get something out of the game with
a couple of shots narrowly going wide. Carterton got something from the
referee when Sophie was fouled in the box and they were awarded a penalty.
Tracy took the spot kick, which was well saved by the keeper; luckily Tracy
followed in and scored from the rebound 4-1.
Full Time: - Unity FC 4 v Carterton FC 1.
As the final whistle blew we were left to count the injuries, two players
off the pitch and two walking wounded on the pitch with Jodi also limping
off. Other than being knocked out of the Plate we were looking at players
being out for some time with the injuries they received. If the referee had
pulled some players up early on for ‘studs showing’ tackles we may not of
had so many players injured. This report doesn’t really mention how well our
team played and the manner in which they played this game. Player of the
Match went to Kayleigh Murphy for her strong, focused work in the centre of
the pitch, well done. 17.01.10 Olney Town FC 0 v
Carterton FC 4.
With a long break for Christmas and the
weather it was good to get a League match played, even though it was a long
journey to Olney in Bedfordshire. V in goal with a back four from the left
of Nicola, Gemma, Jodi and Georgia. The midfield again from the left was
Kayleigh, Tracy, Sophie and Chrisanne, with Stacey and Charlotte up front.
On the bench was Dawn. The home side could only muster 10 players for the
match but it was good to get the game on, the pitch was a bit boggy in
places and on a slope.
Olney won the toss and played up hill in the first half. Early pressure from
the away side saw Stacey have a couple of half chances, one well saved by
the keeper. Jodi broke out of defence with the ball and had a shot which
again the keeper saved well onto the post and out for a corner. From the
corner Tracy had a chance from 25 yards out but scuffed her shot. The break
through came on the half hour when a cross from Sophie out wide on the right
went across the face of the goal to Kayleigh who dragged the ball onto her
right foot and shot into the roof of the net. Everyone around seemed to
stand and watch which made us on the touchline think she was offside but a
goal was given. Again the keeper pulled off another great save when Stacey
laid the ball into the path of Sophie’s run and she struck the ball well and
it was tipped over the crossbar. Just before half time some great build up
play from Gemma, Charlotte and Tracy moved the ball forward and a good ball
into Stacey only for her shot to go inches wide.
Half Time: - Olney Town 0 v Carterton FC 1.
During the break we made the change, with Dawn coming on at Left Back,
Georgia moving to Left Midfield, Kayleigh moving into Centre Midfield and
Sophie coming off. With all the possession in the half we were worried that
we only had a one goal lead, but the players said with the ball running away
from them because of the slope it was hard to control and deliver the
passes.
The second half started as the first with a lot of pressure from the away
side, with the home side trying to hit the long ball over our defence and
run onto it. This didn’t really work as the slope took the ball away from
them and V was off her line quickly to mop up any break. Charlotte got a
chance with a run into the box with the ball but her shot went wide. An
early substitute was made with Charlotte coming off and Sophie going up
front, this paid dividends almost immediately when a ball deep in our own
half from Dawn was controlled well on Sophie’s chest and her shot cleared
the outstretched arms of the keeper into the goal, 0-2. Five minutes later
Sophie got her second goal when in the box by the goal line, Stacey with her
back to goal and a defender close behind her, she managed to turn the
defender and lay the ball to Sophie who didn’t miss this time, 0-3. Another
chance came when a free kick was given for a trip on Tracy who had made a
good run through the centre. Twenty yards out and central, Stacey took the
kick, which just went over the bar. Charlotte came back on for Chrisanne and
went out to the right of midfield, Chrisanne had run her ‘socks off’ all
game and needed the rest!! With 10 minutes to go some great build up from
Tracy in the centre delivered a great ball into space behind the defence and
Stacey got there just before the keeper to score, 0-4.
Full Time: - Olney Town 0 v Carterton FC 4.
A much better second half where we looked to pass and move, with the ball
doing all the work. With a player advantage it really did show in the end
with Olney Ladies tiring near to the end but to their credit battled to the
final whistle. Player of the Match was hard in a good way with 4 or 5
players producing some good football but in the end the player who came out
on top was Captain, Tracy McCue for her strong tackling in the game and her
precise passing near the end.
13.12.09 Carterton v City
Belles FC
match had to be stopped in 2nd 1/2 due to
serious injury to a player 06.12.09 Carterton FC 0 v
Ducklington Ladies 2
After the game the week before had been
cancelled due to the weather it was good to get out and play. V was working
but managed to ‘pop out’ for two hours to play in goal !! The same back four
of Dawn, Jodi, Gemma and Nicola with ‘new girl’ Sophie Thomas partnering
Tracy in the centre of midfield in the absence of Lucy. Georgia started this
weeks game on the left wing with Kayleigh moving over to the right,
Charlotte and Stacey played up front. On the bench were Georgina and Kelly.
Carterton won the toss and chose to play the first half with the wind behind
them. The game started and for the first twenty minutes it was played in the
centre of the pitch with no real clear chances for either team. The home
side had a couple of attacks but the final ball was over hit and with the
wind the ball ran safely through to the Ducklington keeper. With 6 minutes
to go to half time, Ducklington won a corner and like the previous meeting
of these two teams, they scored with a powerful header, this time from Emma
Proctor.
Half Time: - Carterton FC 0 v Ducklington Ladies 1.
The second half started slowly but a mistake in the middle of the pitch by
Carterton gave Ducklington the chance to steal the ball, which they took and
through Ducks Karen Slatter they doubled their lead. The first substitution
was made with Dawn coming off and Georgina taking her place at left back.
Carterton pressed to get back into the game but no clear chances came their
way and midway through the second half Tracy came off with a knock to her
knee, Kelly came on to play on the right wing and Kayleigh shuffled across
to centre midfield. In the last few minutes Nicola came off to be replaced
by Dawn and Kayleigh came off and Tracy went back on to see if she could run
off the injury.
The game finished 0-2, but a far better performance from the home team
against a strong, experienced Ducklington side. Player of the match went to
Vanessa Spice in goal, her communication was excellent, Well done to all. 15.11.09. County Cup Quarter
Final. Carterton FC 1 v Ducklington LFC 5
Kilkenny Lane was the home venue for this Cup match against a very
experienced Ducklington side. The keeper and back four were unchanged V,
Dawn, Jodi, Gemma and Nicola. Kayleigh played out on the left wing with
Tracy and Lucy in the centre and Georgina on the right, Charlotte and Stacey
up front. Carly, Georgia and new player Kelly Simpson on the bench.
Early in the first half Ducklington were awarded a penalty for handball and
Sarah Snowdon took it well. Sarah got her second midway through the half
when she lost her marker and one on one with V made no mistake. Carterton
seemed to panic when on the ball and kick the ball anywhere. In the dying
seconds of the first half the home side were also awarded a penalty, when
the keeper clipped Stacey Oakey. Stacey stepped up to take the spot kick and
sent the keeper the wrong way.
Half Time: - Carterton FC 1 v Ducklington LFC 2.
With Ducklington moving the ball around well, Carterton seemed to be on the
back foot for large periods, making the defence work really hard to keep the
away side from scoring. On 56 minutes Sarah got her hat trick, when V came
out of the box and headed the ball only for it to get passed out wide to her
and with an open goal in front of her, she didn't miss. The first
substitution was for Carly to come on for Georgina on the right wing.
Charlotte was working very hard up front closing players down and trying to
hold on to possession. With 15 minutes to play Nicola Warner got a great
goal when she headed a cross from a corner into the back of the net. Another
substitution with Dawn being replaced by Georgia who was straight into
action against Sarah attacking down their right. A couple of minutes later
Sarah got her fourth from inside the 18 yard box to make it 1-5. With 5
minutes left to play Stacey was taken off and Kelly (for her first match for
Carterton) went up front to partner Charlotte. The final whistle blew on the
Cup game with Ducklington coming away deserved winners. Two matches in three
weeks see the two teams play each other again, this time in the league.
Full Time: - Carterton FC 1 v Ducklington LFC 5.
Not the best game of football played by the home side this season, but a
strong performance from one player who never gave up all game. The Player of
the Match went to Charlotte McClarron.
08.11.09 Carterton FC 3 v
Chinnor Ladies 2
After a four week break from football it was good to get the team back
together for a game. V was back in goal the same back four of Dawn, Jodi,
Gemma and Nicola with Kayleigh on the left of midfield and Chrisanne on the
right. Tracy was partnered by Georgina in the middle and Charlotte and
Stacey were up front. On the bench we had Carly and new signing Georgia
Jackson.
Carterton started the game but Chinnor looked the more threatening in the
early exchanges of the match and capitalised on sixteen minutes when a cross
from their left was controlled in the middle of the area, the shot was
blocked well but fell at the feet of Jennifer Behenna who shot over the
defender and into the top corner of the goal. Tracy had a chance a couple of
minutes later but unfortunately it crept just wide of the upright. The game
was end to end with both sets of defenders working hard to keep the other
team at bay, Charlotte had a chance to equalise before half time when Stacey
passed to her and like Tracy’s shot, it went just wide.
Half Time :- Carterton FC 0 v Chinnor Ladies 1.
The home side got off to a great start in the second half when Charlotte
beat the off side trap with a pass from Stacey and with her first touch beat
the keeper with only forty seconds of the half gone 1-1. Chinnor fought
straight back and V had to pull off a great save to keep the scores level.
It was Cartertons turn to put pressure on the Chinnor goal with Stacey
pulling out wide for a pass, after receiving the ball she cut into the box
and delivered a ball to Charlotte who scored her second of the day. Within
three minutes and still pressuring the away teams goal we won a corner which
Gemma knocked into the centre of the 6 yard box, this was cleared to the
edge of the area where Chrisanne was and she floated the ball back into the
danger area and Georgina was on hand to head the ball into the back of the
net 3-1. A substitution was made with Dawn coming off and Georgia taking her
place at left back. Chinnor almost got one back soon after with a strong run
down the left wing and shot, which went inches wide. From the goal kick the
ball reached Stacey in Chinnors half and from 35 yards out she took a shot,
which again only just went wide. Nicola took a knock in a challenge; so to
give her a breather Dawn went back on at right back. With ten minutes left
of the game Stacey had another good chance to extend the lead when she was
one on one with the keeper, but a great block prevented a goal. A couple
more substitutions were made with Georgina and Kayleigh coming off and
Nicola and Carly taking their places. Chinnor towards the end of the game
were piling on the pressure with attack after attack being closed down by
the back four. In added time Chinnor won a free kick when Tracy miss timed
her tackle, the ball was knocked into the box and not cleared by the defence.
Charlotte Cairns was on hand to poke the ball into the back of the net to
make it 3-2. After the restart the referee played about thirty seconds
before the final whistle blew.
Full Time :- Carterton FC 3 v Chinnor Ladies 2.
A good game, which could of gone either way, well done to all the team.
Player of the Match went to Chrisanne Massetti for a solid performance,
improving every game.
11.10.09 Chiltern Saints 4 v
Carterton FC 3.
This was our first League away match of the
season at Chalfont St Peter (near London !!). Our keeper was missing this
weekend as V had her Level 2 coaching course. Stacey went in goal with an
unchanged back four of Dawn, Jodi, Gemma and Nicola and similarly in
midfield with Kayleigh, Lucy, Tracy and Chrisanne. Up front we had Tiff and
Georgina with Carly and Charlotte (who got to the game just before half
time) on the bench.
Carterton started very brightly and put the home side under pressure with
Georgina going close from a good cross by Kayleigh. On five minutes Dawn
passed the ball into the run of Tiff and she held off a strong defender and
beat the keeper to put Carterton one-nil up. Straight down the other end
from the re start saw Gemma pull off a great block to prevent the home side
from shooting. Georgina had another good chance from the right of the box
but her shot sailed wide. Tracy got a knock to her toe and was replaced by
Carly while Tracy came off to tape up a broken toenail!! On seventeen
minutes Carterton gave away a free kick inside the home teams half, the
resulting kick cleared the head of Nicola for Alice Nutkins to receive, take
the ball into the box, shrug of two challenges from Gemma and Jodi before
beating Stacey in goal, 1-1. Tracy after being bandaged up returned to the
pitch and Carly coming back off. The game was end to end with both teams
looking to put themselves ahead and it was Carterton who did just that seven
minutes before half time when Georgina passed to Tiff and again she beat the
diving keeper, 1-2. Almost immediately Chiltern had a shot on target, which
Stacey managed to save and Gemma was on hand to boot the ball up field.
Half Time:- Chiltern Saints 1 v Carterton FC 2.
The restart saw Charlotte on and Tracy who was re bandaging her foot on the
bench, Charlotte went up front with Georgina dropping into midfield along
side Lucy. Carterton almost increased the lead within two minutes when Tiff
passed to Lucy who hit it first time, high and wide. Another great chance
fell to Tiff after a great run and pass from Lucy put Tiff in a good
position, her first touch pushed her away from goal and with Charlotte
shouting in the middle of the box unmarked, Tiff went for goal and was well
wide. Chilterns went straight down the other end and won a corner, the
resulting cross went across the face of the goal and thankfully nobody from
the home side got on the end of it. Continued pressure from Chiltern saw
them strike the post with a shot from 30 yards and a strong run through the
middle from Emily Maule brought the equaliser for Chiltern, 2-2. Kayleigh
was replaced on the pitch with 63 minutes gone with a slight knee injury and
Tracy came back on, Georgina went out to the left wing and Tracy slotted
back into the middle. The home side were very strong across the midfield and
up front and pressured the goal, one attack had Alice one on one with Stacey
and somehow Stacey saved the ball between her ankles. Down the other end
their keeper also pulled of a great save from Charlottes shot, Lucy had
another good chance to put the away side in the lead when Charlotte played
the ball back to Lucy but her shot was high over the bar. Charlotte and Tiff
also went close, Charlottes shot was saved between the legs of the keeper
and Tiff could of done better with her shot but hurried the effort which
went wide. Ten minutes before the end Chiltern went in front for the first
time in the game when Alice Nutkins got her second when she ran through the
defence and beat Stacey to her right. Within a minute Carterton had
equalised when from a tight angle Charlotte beat the keeper, 3-3. Carly was
brought on for the last few minutes with Georgina making way, Chrisanne
changed wings from right to left and Carly took up the right midfield
position. With three minutes to go a shot from the home side was spilt by
Stacey and Chilterns Emily Maule was quickest to the ball for a simple tap
in. Carterton pressed and pressed for the equaliser but time ran out.

A very exciting, tense game with good work from all players, Chrisanne who
completed her first full game is showing good promise but Player of the
Match went to Dawn Slatford for a consistent game and listening to what was
asked of her.

Chiltern Saints 2
First game of the season for the Ladies to
play up at Kilkenny Lane and what a great game this was. The keeper and back
four were unchanged from last week as they are forming a good understanding.
Lucy and Tracy took control of the centre of midfield with Kayleigh on the
left and Chrisanne being asked to play right midfield. Charlotte and Stacey
were up front together with Bonnie, Carly and Georgina(who got there just
before half time from work) were on the bench.
Carterton lost the toss for choice of ends but ended up with the end they
wanted to start the game with so nothing lost, as the second half would
prove. The game got underway and Chiltern put Carterton on the back foot,
keeping the ball deep in the home sides half. A nervous few minutes ensued
with the away side dominating play and from a speculative shot hit the
crossbar and luckily away to safety. From this point Carterton began to
settle into their game with Jodi and Gemma controlling the defence and Lucy
with Tracy winning most 50/50 balls in the midfield. Newcomer Chrisanne was
working really hard down the right wing with her pace putting the Chiltern
players under a lot of pressure. On the other wing we had a different player
in Kayleigh than a week ago. The last match she didn’t get into the game but
this week her control and passing was far better and gave their defenders a
ragged time. On thirty minutes Chiltern took the lead from a corner which V
called for and somehow spilt the ball into her own goal. In less than thirty
seconds Carterton had equalised when Jodi blocked an attack and ran with the
ball over the half way line and put a great ball onto the run of Stacey who
coolly beat the keeper low to her right. Dawn at left back was having
another good game, at training we asked her to attack the ball more and use
her head, today she showed she can do this well, and she was up against a
very good attacker. With only six minutes left of the first half Carterton
got their noses in front when from a Chiltern goal kick Stacey jumped and
got the ball square in the face but managed to control the ball and with a
delightful one two with Charlotte, Stacey was one on one with the keeper and
this time hit it low to the left of the out coming keeper. As the game was
just about to restart the referee noticed Stacey had blood coming from her
nose so requested she leave the field and have it dealt with. Chiltern
picked their game up again and a frantic goal area scramble from 5 or 6
Carterton players to keep the attack at bay was eventually thwarted by a
great clearance from Gemma which fell to the feet of Charlotte who ran at
the defender twisting and turning her way into the box and from a tight
angle she drove the ball across the face of the goal but nobody was there.
Charlotte also picked up an injury to her knee as she fell awkwardly but
carried on to half time.
Half Time: - Carterton FC 2 v Chiltern Saints 1.
Chiltern started the second half with the sun, which was quite low, in their
eyes and the home side were fired up from the kick off. Early pressure was
rewarded in a well-taken corner from Gemma that was met on the half volley
by Stacey at the front post to get her hat trick, 3-1. The away side never
gave up and pulled a goal back in the fifty-fifth minute with an individual
piece of skill from Alice Nutkins. She took on three players before placing
the ball in the corner of the goal, 3-2. Within three minutes Carterton had
pulled their two-goal cushion back with a great kick down field from V which
found Stacey on the right wing. Stacey held off the defender and turned into
space and saw Charlotte make a great run up field , she delivered the ball
to Charlotte’s feet and she held off the centre back, took the ball into the
box and beat the keeper into the bottom left corner. Before the game
restarted Chrisanne came off after putting in a very good performance and
Georgina came on up front with Charlotte moving to right midfield. The pace
of the game started to slow with a lot of the ball moving around the
midfield area with not many clear chances, Georgina having trouble getting
into the game and finding herself offside on many occasions. Chilterns broke
down their right wing and put in a great cross, thankfully V was on hand to
punch the ball away from the incoming striker and keep the 2-goal lead.
Another substitution, with Dawn coming off after another good performance
and Bonnie slotting in at left back. With ten minutes to go and Charlotte’s
knee playing her up we took her off and replaced her with Carly. A few
chances fell to Georgina and Stacey to put the game well out of reach, but
some wild or week shots meant the score never changed and a minute before
the final whistle Tracy fell awkwardly on her knee and Dawn came back on to
partner Lucy in the centre of midfield to see the final seconds out.

The whole team played really well, Lucy and Tracy again strong in midfield
and Gemma growing in her new role at the back. Player of the match went to
Stacey for her hat trick and all round movement on and off the ball. 27.09.09. Carterton FC 2 v
Hazlemere Sports 1
Nearly the end of September and we are still
enjoying the sunshine, well almost, except for the hard pitches and the heat
during play! Our second League match and another home fixture meant we had a
full team and 3 subs this week. Vanessa Spice in goal, Dawn Slatford at left
back and Nicola Rose at right back. Gemma Gordon-Smith and Jodi Bradley at
centre backs with Lucy Moore and Tracy McCue (C) controlling the centre of
midfield, Kayleigh Murphy on the left of midfield and Ashley Gubbins on the
right. Stacey Oakey partnered Charlotte McClarron up front and on the bench
were Bonnie Bickford, Carly Bull and Chrisanne Massetti.
Carterton won the toss and chose to have the sun on their backs rather than
in their faces. Hazlemere started the game with only nine players as one
player struggled in the warm up, so didn’t start and they only came with ten
players. The game got under way and Hazlemere were the team that got about
Carterton and didn’t look out numbered. A big blow to the home side was when
Tracy pulled up with a leg injury inside the first ten minutes and a quick
substitution took place with Bonnie coming on for her first game for
Carterton at right back, Nicola moving to right midfield and Ashley into the
centre to partner Lucy with Jodi taking the captains armband. This took a
little time to adjust to but Lucy was working hard in midfield feeding balls
to Charlotte and Stacey who were making the keeper work hard. Half way into
the half and Carterton got a well deserved goal when a ‘route 1’ ball kicked
from the hands of V was headed on by Stacey and Charlotte chased the ball
got it under control and ran at goal, with Hazlemere’s number 7 chasing her
down she coolly timed her shot to beat the keeper. From the centre the away
side fought back and within a couple of minutes V was called upon to pull
off a great save diving to her left and flicking the ball out for a corner.
Carterton’s defence were working well together, Bonnie had settled into
right back and was putting in some timely tackles, with Dawn on the other
side closing down any attacks down their right and Jodi and Gemma blocking
the hard working Hazlemere ladies through the centre. Charlotte had another
golden chance to put the home side further ahead when Stacey put Charlotte
in on goal with only the keeper to beat she chipped the ball into her hands.
A couple more attempts just before half time fell to Lucy and Stacey, Lucy’s
was from a great ball cut back to her on the edge of the area from Charlotte
but her shot was high over the bar. Stacey’s chance was from the resulting
goal kick which went straight to her, which she controlled, and hit back at
goal only for the contact to be not quite right and the ball went sailing
wide.
Half Time:- Carterton FC 1 v Hazlemere Sports 0.
Carterton started the second half off and pressured the Hazlemere defence.
Nicola was working well down the right flank and Kayleigh who couldn’t seem
to get going in the first half was finding more of the ball and running at
players. On fifty two minutes Kayleigh was fouled about 30 metres out when
she beat a defender, up stepped Gemma to take the kick. A lovely ball into
the 18 yard box went just over Lucy’s head but Stacey was on hand to control
the ball with her chest, move the ball to her left and yes with her ‘left
foot’ scored in the bottom left corner of the goal, 2-0. Another break came
almost immediately when from V’s goal kick, Stacey flicked the ball onto
Nicola’s run and she crossed the ball into Charlotte but her shot was
defended out for a corner. We made a couple of substitutes with Dawn coming
off and being replaced by another ‘new girl’ Chrisanne and Charlotte coming
off for Carly. Hazlemere were putting in a great effort with only ten
players, especially their number 18, Annette Dean who was very skilful with
the ball and running at our defence. Carterton won another free kick on the
right half way in Hazlemeres half when Stacey turned the defender only for
her to hang a leg out and trip Stacey over. Again Gemma took the free kick,
with everyone attacking the back post, unfortunately the ball curled in
towards the front post and into the hands of the keeper. Midway into the
second half and Hazlemeres hopes were lifted when Annette took on two
Carterton players and from the left corner of the box hit a delightful shot
into the top right of the goal, 2-1. Another substitution was forced on the
home side when Ashley came off with breathing problems and Charlotte went on
to replace her in the centre of midfield. After the goal the away side
seemed to have a new lease of life and looked like they had the extra player
and penned the home side in their own half. Lucy was given the job of
marking the number 18 until the end of the game as she was their biggest
threat. A couple of minutes before the final whistle Stacey had a chance to
put the game out of the reach of Hazlemere but she snatched at the shot
which went wide. The final whistle blew and Carterton had held on to the
lead which was very pleasing to the home supporters.

Player of the match was awarded to Lucy Moore for her work effort and
communication throughout the match. Preliminary Round 1 of Plate
20.09.09 FC Bracknell Ladies 1 v Carterton FC 0.
After last weeks abundance of
players, this week we were not so lucky with only the bare 11. V. in goal,
we tried from the start with three at the back, Gemma, Dawn and Jodi as the
sweeper. Four across the midfield from left to right were Kayleigh, Tracy,
Ashley and Tiff !! Just in front of the four was Nicola with Carly and
Stacey up front.
Bracknell won the toss and chose to attack uphill in the first half as they
started the game with only 10 players. Carterton kicked off and with the
slope put early pressure on the home team and closed down every time they
lost possession. The home side were playing a high defensive line which kept
catching Stacey out on her runs and some of the through balls were hit
slightly too hard, with the slope rolled through to their keeper. Gemma took
a couple of great corners, the second fell in the path of Tracy but
unfortunately her shot went wide. The home side were getting frustrated with
Cartertons battling for the ball and put in some untimely tackles, one of
which the referee had to intervene. Just before half time Bracknell had a
shot but again theirs was off target. Neither goalkeeper was called upon to
make a save up to the half time whistle.
Half Time:- FC Bracknell 0 v Carterton FC 0.
The second half started with Bracknell fielding a full team as their 11th
player turned up just before half time. Carterton didn’t make advantage of
the slope and playing against 10 players in the first half and six minutes
into the half a shot from just inside the left corner of the box from
Bracknell’s Stephanie Fettes beat V at the near post. A few minutes later
Carterton had a half chance when a knock on from Stacey saw Tiff ! sprint to
get to it as the keeper also came out, the clash of both players and the
ball was hard, the ball spun out of the clash and headed towards the goal
unfortunately going just wide of the upright and out for a goal kick.
Bracknell were putting the defence under pressure but Jodi at the back kept
a cool head and dealt with every situation that was thrown at her. We
reverted back to a 4-4-2 with Nicola dropping back into her right back
position for the last 15 minutes and pushed for an equaliser. The team
battled up to the final whistle but just couldn’t find the form of a week
ago and especially the back of the net.

Lady of the match went to Jodi Bradley for her organisation of the backs and
timely tackles during the match. Well done to all the team.
13.09.09 Carterton FC 12 v
Bardwell 1
A new season and a new team playing in the
Thames Valley County Womens Football League. We were fortunate to have a
full squad for our first game at home playing at Monahan Way. Vanessa Spice
(V) is our new keeper, a back four from left to right were Dawn Slatford,
Gemma Gordon-Smith, Jodi Bradley and Nicola Rose. A centre midfield duo of
Tracy McCue (Captain) and Lucy Moore with Tiff Bryant playing on the right
and Kayleigh Murphy on the left wing. Stacey Oakey and Georgina Hewson
played up front with Charlotte McClarron, Carly Bull and Ashley Gubbins on
the Subs. Bench. Unfortunately Bardwell could only muster 9 players for this
game, but on a slightly windy but sunny Sunday afternoon the game got under
way.
Carterton won the toss and kicked off and it was Bardwell who had the first
chance on goal but a great block from V in goal prevented them from scoring.
She did take a nasty knock to her knee but carried on. Inside three minutes
Carterton were on the score sheet when a cross from the right by Stacey
found Lucy with time in the centre she put a great ball into the path of the
running George who scored with her left foot !! George could of doubled her
tally soon after when the goal kick only just came out of the box and her
first time strike just missed the goal. A minute later George was in the
thick of things again when with her back at goal she layed a ball back to
Lucy who scored in the bottom left corner, 2-0. On Fifteen minutes a great
cross from Stacey to George who took the ball slightly wide but had vision
again to lay the ball back to Lucy, this time she didn’t score but converted
a goal !! (the ball sailed over the crossbar). Each time Bardwell had the
ball, Carterton closed them down quickly, the defence and midfield working
well together to give the two strikers plenty of the ball. Stacey had a
strike from 25 yards out, narrowly missing the goal, Tracy and Lucy were
controlling the midfield very well giving Tiff licence to press on whenever
she could. On twenty minutes we won a corner and Tiffs in swinging cross was
met by Stacey on the volley/scuff and found its way into the back of the
net. Stacey got her second almost immediately from some fine defending work
from Jodi and Nicola getting the ball back into Bardwells half and from the
right side of the box Stacey’s strike went over the outstretched keepers
hands and into the net 4-0. A substitution was made taking George off,
moving Tiff up to partner Stacey and placing Carly out on the right wing for
her first ever competitive game of football. On the half hour mark Tiff
almost got on the score sheet, but like Lucy struck it over the bar. It
wasn’t all one way as Bardwell battled hard and their determination paid off
when a poor clearance was seized upon by Julianne Gadsby who hit a first
time screamer which V had no chance of saving 4-1. Carterton went straight
on the attack down the left with Kayleigh taking a shot, sadly well wide. A
substitution was made with Charlotte replacing Stacey up front. Just before
the half time whistle, Kayleigh had another strike this time from the edge
of the area, again going wide.
Half Time :- Carterton FC 4 v Bardwell 1.
The second half started with a change of formation, Gemma coming off to
leave three at the back and Ashley coming on to make five in midfield with
Kayleigh and Carly changing wings. Bardwell started by playing a high back
line which Charlotte capitalised on when she knocked the ball over the
defense and ran onto her own ball, the away side didn’t even chase back so
Charlotte was one on one with the keeper who didn’t come off her line. When
she reached the ball instead of controlling the ball and placing her shot
she hurried the strike, which went wide of the goal. Dawn had a very good
game down the left, at times she didn’t have a lot to do but when called
upon she dealt with the opposition and passed the ball well. Ten minutes
into the second half and more substitutions, wingers, Kayleigh and Carly
came off, Tiff went back to right midfield and Charlotte left midfield,
George and Stacey back on up front. Stacey got her hat trick almost
immediately with a great strike of the ball. Bardwell were tiring and
Carterton had more and more time on the ball, the midfield were controlling
the game and passing well, Ashley controlled one of Bardwells goal kicks and
set Charlotte up for her goal which she took well 6-1. A couple of minutes
later from another goal kick, this time Tiff controlled the ball took an
extra touch and fired the ball back into the net 7-1. Another strike from
Stacey was blocked out for a corner, which Tiff took. The ball was well
delivered but eluded any of the home side and went out for a throw in on the
other side of the pitch. Stacey got her fourth when I think her cross was
helped by the wind and found its way into the far corner of the goal 8-1. A
minute later George got her second when some good work from Tiff and Stacey
on the right got the ball into the box for an easy strike 9-1. The best goal
of the game came next when deep in our half Nicola controlled the ball ran
at the Bardwell midfield and passed to Stacey who was hugging the right
touchline, she played a one two with Tiff, and from the right crossed into
the box and George was on hand with a volley to get her hat trick 10-1.
Gemma also wanted some of the action and from nearly 35 yards out hit a
great shot only to miss the goal by an inch or two. Again more changes were
made with Dawn coming off and Ashley dropping back into left back, Lucy and
Tiff off with Kayleigh going out on the right, Carly and Tracy back on in
the centre of midfield. Staceys fifth goal came when she had time outside
the box to strike the ball and beat the keeper with only six minutes to play
11-1. In the final two minutes Tracy had two great chances to score, the
first a good strike from outside the box which the keeper half saved and
George was on hand to tap in for her fourth 12-1. The other was almost the
last kick of the game, Stacey had won a free kick just outside the box and
Tracy took it but went wide of the right upright.
A gutsy performance from Bardwell who never gave up during the game playing
with 9 players and well done to Carterton for playing some good football.
Player of the match was very tricky with two players getting their hat
tricks and some real good performances from others but decided to give the
trophy to Tiff Bryant for her contribution on the field. Well done to you
all, especially to Jodi who is a dab hand at putting the nets on the goals
!!
